Rick,
John "Jack" J. Saginaw, Michigan Passed away Sunday, June
3, 2007; age 79 years. John Joseph Rick was born April 23, 1928 in
Saginaw to John and Martha (Quigley) Rick. They predeceased him.
John was a 1946 graduate of Arthur Hill High School, and an accomplished
athlete. He later graduated from General Motors Institute with an
Industrial Engineering degree. He married Iris Heilbronn in 1955.
She survives him. John was an active faithful member of the First
Congregational Church in Saginaw, and had served there as usher and
other duties. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and outdoor activities.
He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean
War aboard the U.S.S. Hugh Purvis DD 709. He was a member of the
Navy League, the Germania Club, past member of the Riverside Kiwanis
Club, the Pioneer Club and member of the Masonic Lodge. He retired
from Grey Iron Foundry as Assistant Superintendent of Maintenence,
and was a life member of the American Foundrymen Society. Surviving
besides his wife Iris, he leaves their children and their families:
Andrew E. Rick; Dr. Peter D. (Dr. Donna) Rick and their children
Chelsea, Peter Jr. "Duie", Noah, and Keon; Matthew H.
(Michelle) Rick and their children Sarah, Rachel, Joshua, and Hannah;
Timothy
A. (Michelle) Rick and their children Morgan and Madison; and many
other loving family members and friends. John was predeceased by
their son John H. Rick, and two sisters: Katherine and Betty. Funeral
and committal service will take place 11AM Thursday, June 7, 2007
at the First Congregational Church, 403 S. Jefferson St. Rev. Dr.
Charles Guerreno will officiate. Private interment will take place
at Forest Lawn Cemetery. Family and friends will gather at the
Reitz Herzberg Funeral Home, 1550 S. Midland RD (M47) on Wednesday
from
2PM to 4PM and 6PM to 8PM, and at the church on Thursday one hour
before the funeral. Memorial envelopes are available for your offering
to the First Congregational Church, St. Mary's Burn Unit, or the
Nature Conservancy.
Hillman, Pete A. Saginaw Township, Michigan "Be
thou faithful unto death, and I will give you a crown of life." Revelation,
2:10. Pete went to be with Jesus May 13, 2007 after a courageous 23-year
battle with
melanoma and
then a seven-year battle with sarcoma cancer of the muscle. Age 69 years, Pete
A. Hillman was born April 19, 1938 to the late Warren R. and Edna (Shaver)
Hillman. He was baptized at St. Paul's Lutheran Church at the 10th and Lapeer
location, and later confirmed his faith at Faith Ev. Lutheran Church in Saginaw.
Pete was a member of Peace Lutheran Church for many years, and had served on
the Board of Education, assisting the Trustees on many projects. He was also
involved with the Evangelism Group. He also worked with youth as a trained
Catechist since 1980 at the church. Pete was a 1956 graduate of Arthur Hill
High School, and later a 1961 industrial engineer graduate of General Motors
Institute. He was a member of the Foundryman's Association, retiring from Chevrolet
Grey Iron Foundry in 1991 after 35 years of service. Pete enjoyed making and
flying remote control airplanes and served as an officer of the Saginaw Valley
Remote Control Club. He loved to work with wood and was especially proud of
building the first home for his family. The family wishes to give special thanks
and tribute to Dr. Ernie Balcueva and staff, U of M Cancer Center staff, the
Karmanos Cancer Center staff in Detroit, Lutheran Homes of Michigan - Hospice
Center of Hope, and hundreds of Prayer Warriors. He married Judith M. Schaitberger
at Peace Lutheran Church in Saginaw on September 7, 1963. She survives him,
along with a son, Russell H. (Shawn) Hillman and their children, Emily R.,
Megan E. and Mekaela E. Hillman of Zeeland, MI; a daughter, Lisa R. (George)
Klement and their, children Rachael L, Rebecca R., and Zachary D. Klement of
Midland, MI; his mother-in-law, Ruth M. Schaitberger; and a sister-in-law,
Marilyn N. Jordan. Pete was predeceased by a brother, James K. Hillman and
a sister, Susan E. Hillman, his father-in-law, Howard J. Schaitberger, and
a brother-in-law, Howard J. Schaitberger, Jr. Funeral service will take place
11 a.m. Wednesday, May 16, at Peace Lutheran Church in Saginaw. Rev. C. William
Weis will officiate. Interment will take place at Bethlehem Lutheran Cemetery.
Family and friends are welcome to gather at the Reitz Herzberg Funeral Home
on Tuesday from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m., and at the church on Wednesday one hour before
the funeral. In lieu of flowers, a memorial offering may be made to Peace Lutheran
School Tuition Assistance Fund, VLHS Student Aid Account, Peace Church Worker
Endowment Fund, The Lutheran Hour, or Karmanos Cancer Institute.

FUNERAL: Gene’s funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, November 10, 2006 at The Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter (off State). Rev. Robert G. Richards will officiate. Interment will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.
VISITATION: Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday, November 9, 2006 from 2:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service.

Saginaw, MI Beloved husband and father passed away Friday, August 4, 2006 at Covenant – Cooper after a lengthy illness. Age 77 years. He was born December 8, 1928 in Giessen, Germany, the son of the late Ernest and Else (Eulau) Shulhof, and at the age of eight years, moved with his parents to the United States, settling in Richmond, Virginia. He served with the US Army in Japan. Bill graduated from the University of Virginia with a Bachelor of Science. While there, he was initiated as a member of the Raven Society, elected an associate member of the Society of Sigma Xi, and of significant importance, was awarded the Phi Beta Kappa key. He received his Master of Science in Mineralogy in 1955 and later a Ph.D. in Mineralogy – Geology – Chemistry in 1960, both from Penn State University. Bill worked as a geologist with the United States Geological Survey. He married Barbara Dingus July 10, 1955 in Coeburn, Virginia, making their home in Michigan since 1959. He had been employed by AC Spark Plug in Flint from 1959 to 1963 in research and as Supervisor of Chemical Material Interpretation. Bill began his career with General Motors Central Foundry Division in 1965 as a research scientist and manager of Manufacturing Research and Development and then as Technical Director from 1976 until 1990, serving on special assignment from 1990 until his retirement on March 1, 1991. Bill was Past Chairman of the Technical Council and Chairman of the Research Board of the American Foundrymen’s Society and a recipient of their Scientific Merit Award. He was a member of the American Society for Metals. He received the Industry Citation from the Iron Casting Society and was a member of the University Relations Team for Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He held a technical patent for precision bearings. Bill was a member of the Board and past Vice-President of the Saginaw Symphony and was formerly a member of the Saginaw Club. While in Flint, he was involved with the Five Talents mentoring program, serving as judge of various Science Fairs. Bill and his wife Barbara enjoyed a very special relationship and enduring love, celebrating 50 years of marriage in 2005. After his retirement, he enjoyed working with Barbara in her business, A Cut Above Antiques, and together they traveled extensively for the antique business. In addition to his devotion to his wife Barbara, was his love for their three daughters and sons-in-law: Debbie and Glenn Field, Henderson, NC, Nancy and Steve Connell, Canton, MI, and Amy and Gene Coleman, Collingswood, NJ. Bill is also survived by a cousin Frank (Eleanor) Eulau, Washington State; his sister-in-law, Shirley Noel, Virginia; several nieces, nephews and their families and a host of dear friends. He also leaves his beloved Scottie, Meggie. Honoring Bill’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 8, 2006 at the W. L. Case & Company Funeral Chapel, 4480 Mackinaw Road, where the family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. Tuesday until the time of service.
